34” x 26”

As a child, my mother instilled a profound reverence for the natural world. She was my guide, teaching me the names of wildflowers and bird songs on our walks in the woods.

When her chronic illness took her from me, I was heartbroken. In my grief, I retreated to a secluded stream bank, clinging to my father's handkerchief and memories of her. I found entwined roots forming an eternal circle above the gurgling waters there. Amidst the tangled roots, I heard the birds; their melodies connected me to the essence of her spirit, eternally woven into the living forest.

I understood then that our bond transcended the physical. Her soul had become one with the nature she devoted herself to protecting. Like those endless roots, we were intertwined for eternity. Though I lost her earthly form, her teachings and passion for preservation endured within me.

This painting is an ode to my mother's legacy. The tattered yet resilient figure balancing precariously in the embrace of roots represents the fragility and permanence of both nature and our deep connection. The birds embody her transcendent spirit. Despite life's difficulties, in nature, I remain forever anchored to her guiding, eternal love.
